Humboldt International Film Festival

THE ORIGINAL STUDENT RUN FILM FESTIVAL.

The Humboldt Int’l Film Fest has been bringing independent, short films to Humboldt County for 54 years. As one of the world’s oldest student-run film festivals we have created a unique venue for traditional films and alternative digital media that enjoys an international reputation for supporting and celebrating independent filmmakers working in traditional, experimental, and non-traditional modes.  Founded in 1967 by a group of film-loving Humboldt State University students the Festival has expanded over the years to feature 4 days of public screenings, workshops, and presentations by guest judges from the film industry each spring. The festival promotes the art of film, not only as a means of entertainment but also as a vehicle for self-expression and a stimulus for dialogue about social, political, and cultural issues.

ABOUT US.

WE–the students of Humboldt State University–have been inviting filmmakers (working in traditional, experimental and non-traditional modes) to enter their film shorts into our festival and that makes us the world’s oldest student-run film festival.

Our students judge the entries from September to March. The finalists then show for three evenings for our guest industry judges and local audience. Due to the worldwide pandemic it is likely that our 54th Int’l Film Festival will be held Virtually, but that is subject to change.

Our festival promotes the art of film, not only as a means of entertainment, but also as a vehicle for self-expression and a stimulus for dialogue about social, political and cultural issues. To dive into our extensive history check out the link below!
